This exuberant vignette, displaying a vividly colored assortment of birds and cacti, is hand woven from pure wool by Ms. Nadia Mohamed. Learn more about her story below.

Pure cotton for the warps and pure wool for the wefts. All dyeing is done at the Art Centre and most of the dye plants are grown in the garden that surrounds the workshops.

About the artist

Ms. Nadia Mohamed

Nadia Mohamed was born in 1965, Harrania village, from a farming family. 

She attended the local primary school till the age of 16. When Nadia was 12, she joined the young kids whom came to the Art centre after school and during summer holidays to weave and play, later they were the Suzanne Wissa Wassef group that started the second generation weavers in 1972.

Nadia’s strong passion for weaving, allowed her to fully understand the endless capabilities of the weaving technique. Her subject matter varies from depicting village stories and farmer’s activates in the fields, to Village market places, the sea and garden landscapes with their detailed flowers and cactus. Her tapestries have been part of the centre’s collection since the mid 80’s exhibited world wide.

Nadia attended the Egyptian landscapes exhibition in 1985 at the Barbican centre – London, which was inaugurated by princess Diana and wove for 2 weeks in front of the visitors. 

Nadia is marred with 3 children.  Her eldest is 25 years old
